Join us on an educational adventure through each state in the USA! Each post in this series focuses on one state, and includes a regional recipe from that state. This is a fun way to get your kids involved in cooking, as well as learn a bit about United States geography! The post also includes a link to the featured state’s website, where you can learn more about the state. We also include free forms that you can download and print to use along the journey. Geography has never been so delicious!

RECIPE:
Did you know that Florida is the number one producer of citrus fruits within the United States? Oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes are plentiful in Florida.
This recipe takes advantage of Florida’s citrus crop. Kids of all ages love to help make this recipe, and eating it is even more fun!
FLORIDA Key Lime Pie
What You Will Need:
- 4 large Eggs
- 1 14-ounce can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1/2 cup Bottled Key Lime Juice
- 1 9-inch Prepared Graham Cracker Pie Shell
- 1 cup Heavy Cream for whipping
- 2 Medium Mixing Bowls
- Wire Whip
- Electric Mixer
What You Do:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Use an egg separator to separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Put the yolks in a medium bowl and freeze the egg whites for another recipe.
- Whisk the egg yolks for 3 minutes.
- Add the condensed milk and lime juice to the eggs, and continue to whisk.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pie shell.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until the center of the pie is set.
- Cool completely.
- Make the whipped cream by beating the cream in a small bowl with an electric mixer on high speed. This takes about 2 to 3 minutes. Do not overbeat. Spread a thin layer on top of the pie.
- Serve the pie when done, or refrigerate for later.
