Here’s a unique gift idea that you can make in about 20 minutes! Create disposable Poinsettia Soap Petals!
Soap Petals make a great holiday decoration next to your sink, as well as a fun gift to give! Kids love to help make them, and have fun washing their hands with them!
What You Will Need:
- Silk Poinsettia Petals (preferrably water resistant)
- Scissors
- Approximately 2-4 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap (this is enough soap to coat about 25 petals)
- Soap Fragrance Oil (optional)
- Sharp Knife
- Pyrex Measuring Cup
- Tweezers
- Aluminum Foil lined Cookie Sheet (waxed paper will also work)
- Decorative Bowl
- Glassine Bags
What You Do:
- Use a scissors or clippers to clip the poinsettia petals off the stems. This is a step your kids can help you with.
- Use a sharp knife to carefully cut several squares of Melt and Pour Soap and place them in a Pyrex measuring cup.
- Melt the soap in the microwave for about 1 minute (follow directions on soap package).
- Carefully remove the cup with the melted soap from the microwave and stir in a fragrance oil, if desired.
- Using a tweezers, pick up one flower petal and dip it into the melted soap, making sure the entire petal is coated.
- Gently lift the petal out of the soap and allow excess to drip back into the cup.
- Place flower petal on a lined cookie sheet to cool.
- Continue dipping petals into the melted soap until all the petals are covered. Note – if the soap skims over, simply reheat it in the microwave.
- When the petals are cooled, carefully remove them from the aluminum foil and place them in a decorative bowl next to your sink. Note – if there is excess soap around the edges of the petals, trim it away with a scissors and remelt the trimmings.
- To use the soap petals, hold one in your hands under warm water just like a bar of soap, and wash your hands to release the soap. When the soap has dissolved off the petal, just throw the petals away.
- If you would like to make the soap petals to give as gifts, place about a dozen petals in a glassine bag and seal the bag with a vintage holiday sticker – very simple, yet elegant. Include a gift tag, with a short note on how to use the soap petals.
Variations:
- Create soap petals all year long! Use silk pansies in the Spring, roses in the Summer, and colorful leaves in the Fall!
- Surprise your kids at bathtime! Just sprinkle the soap petals into their warm bath water for soapy fun!
